Haven’t done a long hike since august. Really been longing for a simple off trail hike like this. Alone in a vast wilderness area. Started out with freezing temps in the night and walked out of the hike in full summer day 6. On day 5 you can literally hear and see how nature comes alive. I love contrasts like that. Its always what I aim for.
3X3 (10’x10′) Tarp setup idea was awesome. It’s a tent feel about it with the sleeping area that is semi closed and the vestibule on front. Wasn’t clear in the video but the top front of the tent opening I attached on a line tied between two trees. Note that this attaching point needs to be higher than the inside tentpole. When the “waist” of the tent is pegged down the inner sleeping section is formed. If you lift the tent up higher this area can be further enclosed. Now what will I call this setup? Suggestions in comments please.
The boil in bag idea also worked. The point with it is you can do this with the 1 dollar cheap freeze dried meals. The 10 dollar vacuum packed freeze dried meals you just pour hot fluid in there and wait 8 min. That don’t work good with the cheaper brands that is not made for hiking. But with this method you can get it done with perfect result and no dishes! And all you need is a fire.
My feet are wasted after this one and I need some rest. I put in about 30 km in this video. A lot of people don’t know how much that is off trail. It is 3 times harder in comparison to following a trail. You walk and walk, stumble, fall, get wet and if you make a km or two in an hour you are lucky. It is hell part of the time but the places you reach and the scenery is rewarding. I hope you enjoy this hike as much as I did! Thanks for watching!
