After two days of searching, we failed to find an existing crown land camping site that was not damaged beyond repair or covered in trash. On the third day, we decided to stay in a pristine part of the forest with no established campsite. Building a fire pit or in this case, a stone oven is the first step to establishing a new campsite and an obvious departure from the Leave No Trace principles.
Our food plan included two nights of wood fired pizza cooked in a stone oven. This was something we had planned, prepared, and looked forward to doing using an existing fire pit on an established campsite. Now we found ourselves in a pristine location with no evidence it had ever been used as a campsite before. We made the decision to build the stone oven on the beach, hide our campsite in the forest and stay for the next three nights.
