CAMPING TENT SET UP

A 4×4 solo camp in deep Victorian forest with an A-frame tent, hexatarp and fire pit. And a Jeep Rubicon.

This is the first time I’ve used this tent. It’s spacious and canvas so it breathes well.

The hexatarp provides shelter and is quite stealthy. I could barely see the site from 50m away. Importantly it prevents condensation over the campsite so everything is dry in the morning. There’s no need to worry about rain when the tarp is deployed because it’s big enough to keep all of the gear dry.

Rolling up a muddy tent floor in the morning is not cool so I bring a groundsheet. The groundsheet prevents the tent floor from becoming dirty underneath so I stay clean while rolling it up.

This “tent sandwich” is a a great system which I would recommend to couples or small families.

I also brought a stainless steel fire pit which packs flat for storage and is super fast to set up. It makes the site cozy and and warm which is important for winter camping.

When fully deployed the end result is a modular, comfortable, dry, lightweight (for car camping) and easy to pack away campsite that’s good for base camp or overlanding.

Also the birds were making some good camp sounds in this location. If you can name some of them please let us know in the comments.
