Dispersed Camping with a Rottweiler Deep in the North Woods.

CAMPING IN THE WOODS
This week Tilli and I traveled to Northum Minnesota and found a dispersed campsite in the Chippewa National Forest. I did not see any homes for miles. The closest Walmart is about 70 miles away, and the closest Dollar General is 40 miles away. That is how remote this place is. It was the 4th of July weekend, and we did not see another living sole for two days. This spot was close to perfect. The downfall of this site is probably what keeps it empty. There is no way a trailer would make it, and it’s not even close to level. I had to lift the rear of the camper almost a foot just to make it “kind of ok” inside. The payoff was amazing views, peace and quiet, and true remote Minnesota backwoods. Hopefully the flies will settle down soon. The mosquito hatch is over, so they are not as bad as they once were. But the Deerflies have been insane this year. I spoke with a Conversation Officer who said this is the worst he has ever seen them. I’m looking forward to fall. The heat and humidity and suffocating. The temps were in the upper 80’s the dew point in the upper 60’s. It is heat rash season. lol
I’ll see you again next week. Have a wonderful 4th!
