I originally planned on climbing Wheeler Peak in NM, but decided to do it the following day due to a better weather forecast, so instead I just kind of explored the area surrounding Taos Ski Valley. This decision did not disappoint!
I checked out the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (the 10th highest bridge in the US), as well as some incredible dispersed campsites along the rim of the gorge, just south of the bridge. I was then lucky enough to run into an extremely friendly couple that told me about dispersed camping along the road up to Wheeler Peak! Sure enough, I found a beautiful spot right off of the river and only about 10-15 mins from the trailhead.
I spent most of the day from there relaxing at my campsite and enjoying the peaceful sounds of the river to prepare myself to wake up early the next day for the climb up to the New Mexico high point, Wheeler Peak!
