What I like most about it is how versatile it is. My favorite use has been to let the fire die down a bit, toss the cooking grate on for lunch, and then remove it to get a solid campfire going again. It only weighs 7.8 lbs so I can tote it anywhere. This winter I’m looking forward to a few snowshoe hikes with brats and burgers for lunch in the middle of nowhere. I also used it last winter on several ice fishing trips and it’s absolutely perfect for that.
Last thing I’ll add is that it’s an excellent Leave No Trace option for a campfire. The heat shield is remarkably effective, meaning no scorched ground. Yes, you’ll have to dispose of water soaked coals somewhere, but it’s far better than permanently altering a patch of ground.
